Reviewing John Sweeney
The Times Union blog is all agog about the Sweeney’s personal problems. While we wish this kind of thing for non-public officials could be handed non-publically, with what they’re writing we feel we must repeat what we registered on the record regarding the Sweeney situation.
Lately the TU reports that John and his wife are in the process or divorcing, with yesterday’s revelation that John Sweeney requested a restraining order on his wife.
Interesting. Say, didn’t we say the story supported a supposition that Sweeney was on the receiving end of the abuse in that relationship?
Earlier this afternoon, the state Democratic Party held a conference call with Mary Lynch, a former NYC prosecutor, co-director of the Albany Law Clinic and Justice Center and a specialist in the area of domestic violence law. While they are billing her as an expert in this area of law, she’s no expert witness we’d ever want to contemplate a client calling to make a compelling case.
But, she said, the scratches that were reportedly on the Congressman’s face are consistent with “defensive injuries” of the type that would be seen on an alleged attacker who put his hands around a woman’s neck.
This is flatly wrong as our forensic consultant can confirm. The natural and instinctive self-defense reaction to an attack of this form is to grab the arms or wrists of the attacker.
We estimate it egregious enough everyone in the press is pursuing this unpleasant personal plight. That the democrats desire to demagogue in this demonstrably distorted demeanor is dumbfounding.
And now with delivery of this discovery, we’re done.
And so is Sweeney’s opponent.
